Ahhyeon Oh
Artist/Photographer
Ahhyeon (Audrey) Oh was born in South Korea on August 12 1998. In 2010, she moved to California and is currently studying at the University of California, Berkeley to earn a BA in art practice. Her mediums of choice include watercolor, acrylic, oil painting, charcoal, and photography. Her creative process typically involves taking photographs of herself and her cat, which she then uses as a reference for her paintings. Through this process, she aims to create realistic and expressive depictions of her subjects, while also infusing them with her own emotions and experiences. She was inspired by the impressionist painting of Claude Monet, and she strives to capture the same sense of empathy and comfort in her paintings.
As a painter, I am fascinated by the power of art to convey emotions and experiences. My work explores the themes of self-portraiture and the relationship between humans and animals, particularly cats. Through my paintings, I aim to capture the beauty and complexity of the human-animal bond, expressing it in a way that is both personal and universal.
My creative process involves taking photographs of myself and my cat, which I then use as a reference for my paintings. I strive to create realistic and highly detailed depictions of my subjects, while also infusing them with my own emotions and experiences. Through a combination of technical skill and emotional expression, I seek to evoke a sense of empathy and comfort in viewers, inviting them to connect with my subjects and feel a sense of warmth and familiarity in their presence.
